Back to Reality…
I have been working on this blog for about 10 days and it has served as a nice diversion from what my main focus has been for the past number of months…..FINDING A JOB! With this blog I could actually see tangible results for my efforts. Even though the results are a little basic and bland from a site perspective, they were results non the less and that felt GOOD! I felt a level of accomplishment and I really am passionate about sharing my recipes and experiences living a plant based diet. With the job search, accomplishments are few and far between. I spend hour after hour networking, writing LinkedIn articles, scanning job boards and postings, applying to positions, connecting with recruiters, taking calls all for little to no measureable gain. I know I am making strong connections and that will eventually lead to something, but so far = NADA!
Balance
So, I am back focused more on the job search and less on the blog. Yes it was a nice change of pace for me and yes I will continue to add recipes and blog posts, but I need to renew my efforts to find employment. To be honest, while I know I am not alone in the challenge of finding a new career position when you’re over the age of 50, if sure feels like it. I never imagined that after 31 years of a fairly successful career, and being as motivated and eager to re-enter the job market as I am, I would find it so challenging to find something. As I have told many recruiters, I am willing to start at a lower position and work and earn my way back up. It seems I only get interviews for C-level positions, and we know there aren’t a lot of those opening in the retail world (or anywhere). Once I get an intial interview, I have been very successful at getting through the gauntlet of interviews (typically at least 5) and getting to the final stage, only to finish runner -up. The real challenge is I can’t seem to get anyone to take me seriously for lower positions. The dilemma!!!!
Vector
I mentioned on my Home Page that I might talk about topics other than living a plant based diet and life. I will call these Vectors – as in we vectored in a new and different direction. This was a vector for sure, but it needed to happen. I am back to the grind of finding a job – But I will also carve out time to keep this little passion project of mine alive = BALANCE!
