Keep the focus

So many times, I see people who are trying to be healthy, trying to be vegetarian or trying to be vegan and they feel they aren’t doing enough or they feel pressure to do more.  Maybe they aren’t receiving the support they need at home or in their friend group or unfortunately in groups online.  It’s hard to understand why effort to be better is not enough.  Everything in life is a process.  The process includes education, experimentation, goal setting, wins and losses and continual growth.  Everyone is in a different place in their own journey and everyone needs support at times to keep moving forward.  The important thing is that the effort and commitment to be better, healthier, improve the environment and the welfare of animals exists.  Support it, nurture it and drive forward.  KEEP THE FOCUS!

I know a little about this from personal experience.  People have shamed me for using olive oil in some of my recipes.  While I try to minimize oil as a large ingredient, I do use some oil when I pan fry things or in some other small ways.  I completely adopt the everything in moderation concept – with the exception of meat and dairy of course – and I don’t view oils as necessarily an evil ingredient.  There is enough negativity floating around in our society.  Focus on you and the positives things you are doing to improve yourself and KEEP THE FOCUS!

Celebrate and Drive Forward

Instead of tearing down, let’s build, celebrate and drive forward.  I get so excited when I hear from people who have started a vegan lifestyle or have decided to incorporate a couple vegan meals each week.  That is great and it should be celebrated.  Build on the positive!  There will be bad days, cheat days, set backs so expect them and don’t beat yourself up over them.  And for sure, don’t let other’s judge you!  Who cares what they think?  Just focus on you and being the best you, you can be!  Prophetic, right!

I would love to help you if you need support, have questions about my transition to being vegan, cooking questions or anything else that comes to mind.  I also created a Facebook Group called The Average Vegan Dad Group – pretty creative name I would say!  Click the link and join.  The Group is designed to create dialogue, interaction and support for those who are vegan, are trying to be vegan or are just interested in learning more about the benefits of being vegan.  The more people we can reach the better – for their personal health, for our environment and for the welfare of all animals!
